Finding, adopting and trying to raise a happy and healthy puppy can be challenging but very rewarding. That is why I am grateful to share with you what I have learned about Great Dane Mixes during my time working with animals for more than a decade as a volunteer and a professional.

Boxer Great Dane Mix = Great Boxer

  2. This mix between two large dog breeds makes a hybrid that has a tall and muscular build with a personality to match.
  3. On average, they can weigh from 60 pounds to 150 pounds and has a life expectancy of about 12 to 15 years.
  4. They need a lot of exercise and time to play outside to stay fit and burn off energy.
  5. With the short and dense coat, you can expect moderate to heavy shedding. Regular brushing and grooming are needed to manage it.

Husky Great Dane Mix = Great Danesky

Husky Great Dane Mix

  • This hybrid is a mix between a Siberian Husky and a Great Dane.
  • The Husky Great Dane Mix is a unique breed, and there is little information published about them. But you can learn much about them by looking into their parent breeds.
  • Huskies are known to be stubborn and a challenge to train. They are smart, energetic and affectionate towards children.
  • The Great Dane is a powerful and courageous dog. They like pleasing their owners, friendly and are patient with kids.
  • Some of the common health conditions found on both parent breeds are:
    • Hip Dysplasia
    • Bloat
    • Eye problems
    • Bone cancer

Corgi Great Dane Mix = Great Corgi

Corgi Great Dane Mix

  1. The Corgi Great Dane mix is a friendly dog and a bit feisty because of the Corgi in them.
  2. The two breeds, Corgi and Great Dane, are very different from each other.
  3. A Great Dane can reach up to a height of 20 to 34 inches and weigh up to a maximum of 200 pounds.
  4. Corgis are small dogs 12 inches in height and weigh only about 22 to 31 pounds.
  5. You can only learn much about them by their parentage as this hybrid is rare, and the published information about them is very little and very vague.

Poodle Great Dane Mix = Great Poodane

Poodle Great Dane Mix

  • Friendly, intelligent, people-oriented and loving, the Poodle Great Dane Mix is a perfect companion.
  • Great Dane Poodle Mix, as most fondly call them as Great Danoodle or Great Danepoo, doesn’t like to be left alone. They tend to develop separation anxiety that can lead to acting up due to anxiety.
  • Their hunting instinct may compel them to give chase, but with proper obedience training can help.
  • This hybrid is predisposed to developing bloat, which can be fatal. Owners are advised to feed them small regular meals and make sure they are getting enough exercise to help prevent this condition.

German Shepherd Great Dane Mix = Great German

German Shepherd Great Dane Mix

  1. The size, build and abilities of the German Shepherd Great Dane Mix makes them great watchdogs. With proper training, they can grow alert and protective.
  2. They are good family dogs, gets along with other pets and gentle with children, especially when socialized early.
  3. Often called the Great Shepherd, this hybrid is one of the largest crossbreeds. They can stand to a height of 28 – 30 inches and weigh from 65 to 130 pounds.
  4. Their short hair, and at times can be a double coat, requires minimal grooming and is a moderate shedder.

  • The Beagles Great Dane Mix make a very friendly and family-oriented dog. Affectionate and loves spending time with their owners.
  • This hybrid takes after their strong personality from the Great Dane. They would want to belong in a pack and likes to be in charge.
  • They are capable of independence although cannot be left alone for long periods.
  • This hybrid is energetic and would need long walks and hikes to keep them well-behaved.
  • Make sure that you get your Great Dane Beagle from reputable breeders who can show you the health clearances of the puppy as well as the parents.

Bull Mastiff Great Dane Mix = Great Mastiff

Bull Mastiff Great Dane Mix

  1. Also known as Bull Daniff or Mastidane, this hybrid is enormous with size that can range from large to giant dog.
  2. The Bull Mastiff Great Dane Mix is a loyal and loving companion that is well suited to large homes and a yard to stretch and exercise.
  3. They require little maintenance that consists of weekly brushing and keeping them completely dry, especially between the folds of skin to avoid infection.
  4. Dogs as big as the Great Dane Bull Mastiff Mix can consume up to 4 cups of dog food per day to satisfy their nutritional needs.

Labrador Great Dane Mix = Great Labradane

  • The Labrador Great Dane Mix is an excellent family dog. Both parent breeds are famous for their sweet and gentle personalities.
  • They can be stubborn at times. It is caused by its Great Dane parentage that is known for having a strong-willed temperament.
  • Great Danes are known to have moderate to excessive drooling issues. That said, this hybrid might inherit such traits. You can tell if it’s going to be an issue by observing your puppy.
  • Most Great Dane Labrador Mix has short, dense hair that is very similar to that of the Great Dane. These dogs shed seasonally and would require weekly brushing at these times.

Chihuahua Great Dane Mix = Great Chihuahua

Chihuahua Great Dane Mix

  1. The Chihuahua Great Dane Mix is a crossbreed between a purebred Chihuahua and a purebred Great Dane.
  2. This hybrid is very rare, and the only few published information about the mixed breed are unclear. You can only say much about them by examining the traits of the parent breed.
  3. The Chihuahua’s tiny size stands in stark contrast to the Great Dane. Their breed is famous for their big personalities and varieties in types and colors of the coat.
  4. Another memorable trait of Chihuahuas is their shivering which can be triggered when they get scared, excited or cold.

Chow Chow Great Dane Mix = Great Chowdane

  • The mix between Chow Chow and Great Dane created an active, extremely intelligent and loyal guard dog. Eager to please and is very affectionate towards their owners.
  • They have an adorable, expressive face that tells you almost exactly what they’re thinking.
  • Regular exercise and long walks are needed to help them stay fit and keep their energy levels low.
  • Chow Chow Great Dane Mix are large dogs that have a life span of 10 to 14 years.
  • Their medium-length coat requires moderate grooming. Weekly brushing and occasional bathing will help keep their coats clean and shiny.

Border Collie Great Dane Mix = Great Border Collie

    3. Eye diseases
    4. Epilepsy
  4. The Great Dane in them offsets the high energy they get from the Border Collie. As a result, you get a dog that is playful yet loves to cuddle with you at the end of each day.

  • Australian Shepherd Great Dane Mix are intelligent dogs that are easy to train but can also be extremely stubborn. Both parent breeds are fun loving, active and are very loyal.
  • They love mental and physical challenges, going on hikes and extremely long walks.
  • The Australian Shepherd is very social and likes to be around people. Starting proper socialization and training could help make sure they are well-behaved in public settings.
  • Remember to deal with reputable breeders exclusively. They are the only ones who may be able to guarantee the health of your pups.

Dachshund Great Dane Mix = Great Dachshund

  1. This combination of a gentle Great Dane meets, and a feisty Dachshund makes a friendly and adorable dog.
  2. Information about this mixed breed is rare and obscure. Look into their parent breeds to discover more about the traits that they may inherit.
  3. Dachshunds are well-known for their long body, short legs, and feisty personality. They are brave and so much energy but isn’t built for running, leaping, or swimming.
  4. Grooming requirements for their short coats are minimum as they are moderate shedders. They have little or no odor and are relatively clean.

Pug Great Dane Mix = Great Pug

  • Pugs were originally bred in China. They are one of the oldest breeds of dogs that are created to serve as companions and live a life of luxury.
  • This hybrid is very rare which is why information that is published about them is vague or unreliable. You can, however, find out more about their traits from their parentage.
  • Great Danes on average are 28 to 34 inches tall while Pugs can only grow up to 12 inches max.

Cocker Spaniel Great Dane Mix = Great Cocker Spaniel

  1. A mixed breed between Cocker Spaniel and Great Dane, the Cocker Spaniel Great Dane Mix are very adorable dogs.
  2. They are lovable and very affectionate dogs that require plenty of attention.

    2. Bloat
    3. Dilated cardiomyopathy
    4. Hip and Elbow dysplasia
    5. Hypothyroidism
    6. Wobbler syndrome
  4. They don’t shed as much, just moderately. Keep their coats clean and prevent mats by brushing a few times each week. Be careful not to give them too many baths as it can dry out their skin.

St. Bernard Great Dane Mix = St. Great Dane

St. Bernard Great Dane Mix

  • Considered as gentle giants, the St. Bernard Great Dane Mix is a massive hybrid dog perfect for families. Even with their enormous size, they are well-behaved around children and gets along with other household pets.
  • The Great Dane St. Bernard Mix, also called Saint Dane, loves being part of a family and establishes close bonds with their owners.
  • To keep their powerful body in good shape, you would need to give them lots of exercises and a lot of space to play.
  • Just be careful not to overwork them as their rapidly growing body can be easily injured.

American Bulldog Great Dane Mix = American Great Dane

American Bulldog Great Dane Mix

  1. Also known as the American Bull Dane, The American Bulldog Great Dane Mix is one of the most popular breeds in the US.
  2. They are an outstanding guard dog, always on alert and very brave. In spite of that, they are affectionate and loving to their owners.
  3. These gentle giants have low energy but like taking part in mental and physical activities that involve military work, police work, guarding, or hunting.
  4. The Great Dane American Bulldog Mix grow to 27 – 35 inches in height and weighs between 100 to 200 pounds on average.

Cane Corso Great Dane Mix = Great Corso

  • Known for their courage and being protective, the Cane Corso Great Dane Mix is also very friendly and loving dogs. These dogs have moderate energy, easy going, and very laid back.
  • The large body of the Great Dane Cane Corso Mix is not built for jumping. They do like exercises that challenge them mentally and physically.
  • This hybrid is intelligent and might need lots of your attention. Can be easily trained but you need to be consistent and firm as they tend to be stubborn.
  • Expect to see a bit of drooling with these dogs, especially when they are heated.

Shar Pei Great Dane Mix = Great Shar Pei

  1. The Shar Pei Great Dane Mix’s intimidating size alone makes them a great watchdog.
  2. Examining this hybrid’s lineage will give you a good read on their characteristics. Information published on this breed is very few and ambiguous.
  3. The Shar Pei breed’s creation dates back modern times. They were originally bred in China to be used as fighting or guard dogs. This is primarily why these dogs are known to be a bit aggressive.
  4. The Great Dane in this mixed breed helps mellow out this negative behavior. It also helps to have them start training and socialization at an early age.
  5. With a big dog like the Great Dane Akita Mix, you’ll need lots of space for them to run and play.
  6. This hybrid may tend to be aggressive because of the hunting instinct they got from Akita. You can train this out of them by making sure they get lots of socialization with other people and animals while they are young.

  • This hybrid may tend to be aggressive because of the hunting instinct they got from Akita. You can train this out of them by making sure they get lots of socialization with other people and animals while they are young.

  • These dogs would prefer to lie down or spend some time with you, but they would need at least 40 minutes of exercise to prevent issues like:
    • Obesity

    • Hip Dysplasia
    • Cherry Eye
    • Myotonia

  3. Affectionately called Labradane or Great Golden Dane are dogs who perfectly embodies man’s best friend. They are energetic to the point of being boisterous, would like to follow you wherever you go, but would also be content in sitting or sleep next to you.
  4. They have short coats which makes grooming a lot easier. You just need to brush them once in a while to keep them clean and give a bath occasionally or as needed.

  • By combining two giant breeds, the Great Pyrenees and the Great Dane, you’ll get the energetic yet easy going dog.
  • The Great Pyrenees Great Dane Mix is very active. And because of their size, they are more suitable for larger homes with a secured yard.
  • They have a tendency to make a mess as they shed heavily and may occasionally drool. These dogs can also get too loud when they vocalize.
  • This mixed breed grows over 24 inches in height and heavier than 100 pounds.
  • For their size, you would need to feed them 4 cups of dog food daily.

Rhodesian Ridgeback Great Dane Mix = Rhodesian Great Dane

  • The Bernese Mountain Dogs originated from the farmlands in Switzerland. Their purpose was to work as watchdogs and cattle herders for farmers. They are large and sturdy but very friendly and calm in demeanor.
  • You can expect Bernese Mountain Dog Great Dane Mix will create a very large-sized dog.

Pitbull Great Dane Mix = Great Pitbull

  1. The Pitbull Great Dane Mix may look intimidating, but they are actually very affectionate and loving dogs.

  • Lots of exercise or physical activities are needed to keep their energy levels down. One to two hours of long walks and playtime are needed each day to keep them well-behaved.
  • To satisfy their nutritional requirements, you need to give them 3 cups of dog food per day.

Catahoula Great Dane Mix = Great Catahoula

  1. The Catahoula Great Dane Mix are great family dogs that are energetic and very playful. They are affectionate and become protective of the children in their family.
  2. They get their working genes from their Catahoula parent, and it makes them fairly easy to train.
  3. You may need to give them a lot of exercise to mellow down their hunting and herding instincts. They like running and playing active games like fetch or tug-of-war.
  4. Keeping them occupied can prevent them from getting bored or too rowdy which can cause then getting into trouble.

Doberman Great Dane Mix = Great Doberman

  • Also known as Doberdane, the Doberman Great Dane Mix, are intelligent, agile and protective guard dogs. They can be intimidating in appearance, but they can also be a gentle, loving companion.
  • They are very large dogs reaching a height of 8 to 30 inches and weighing around 95 to 140 pounds on average.
  • Grooming is minimal. Their short and sleek coats only require occasional brushing to keep it clean and shiny.
  • The Great Dane Doberman Mix are highly active dogs that require exercise and 3 long walks per day. This means they are better suited to large homes or yard space.

Newfoundland Great Dane Mix = Great Newfoundland

  1. The result of breeding a Newfoundland and a Great Dane makes a Newfoundland Great Dane Mix. They are very big and powerful watchdogs.
  2. Although their size may be intimidating, they are known to be very friendly and playful. And, these traits they got from both parent breeds.
  3. Their long-haired coats can shed a lot. Giving them regular brushing and baths as needed can help you manage it.
  4. You need a strong and firm handler to train this hybrid. They are quite intelligent, but they are stubborn and demands lots of attention.
